Materevolve

(pronounced Mah - teer -ee-vaalv)

We don’t think it’s a coincidence that maternal and material have the same root word": “matr” or the latin word for “mother”. We see our role as technical textile educators, business consultants, and environmental stewards - guiding and nurturing a materials evolution that puts nature first.

What We See As The Problem

  • Sustainability is complex, hard to implement, and always evolving.

Nature thrives on evolution, and so do we.

  • Most textile systems are designed without the technical or scientific knowledge to spec for quality, aesthetics AND sustainability.

Through experiential learning and technical consulting, we provide our clients with the know-how and strategy to keep them moving forward after our project is complete.

  • Scaling regenerative textile systems takes a passionate and committed community.

Work with us to access our diverse community.

Our Focus

Reinvesting in Natural Fiber Systems

We believe this focus is the biggest underestimated solution for our industry. Wool, hemp, linen, and more are under-represented and under-utilized fiber systems that can contribute to the health and wealth of our material world. Cotton is misunderstood and can be revitalized for regenerative textile systems. Natural fibers have an important role in soil and ocean health, and we want to help our clients develop with this in mind.

Developing New Research & Testing Methods

Sometimes there isn’t a test method that helps us evaluate what is best for nature and for our product. We are determined to support our clients who want to navigate through the mucky waters of microfiber pollution, biodegradability, and performance of new materials.

Eliminating Forever Chemicals

We have great expertise in eliminating and specifying greener alternatives to the PFAS class of chemistry (typically used in water and stain repellency in textiles). We also believe that many chemicals are added without a complete understanding of their value add (or environmental impact). We want to help design out of harmful chemistry.

Developing New Material Alternatives

With a deep background in developing and scaling materials innovation, we see an important role that (wo)man made materials can play in our modern world. At the same time, we want to support a material world that has circularity and a positive environmental impact built in from the beginning.

Advancing Textile Recycling & Increasing Recycled Content

With a focus on circularity and scale, we see a need to support both the natural and technical materials cycle. By focusing on just the natural materials cycle, we are not acknowledging the value of current materials and all the forever materials (i.e. modern plastics) we have already created. We want to help develop innovative textile recycling infrastructure and seek brands to support in pull-through.

Building Community & Collaboration

At the heart of Materevolve is a passionate community of people looking to collaborate and make meaningful change with product to match. We see hands-on experiential immersions and our thoughtful curation as the key to building everlasting connections, more creativity, and a better materials world.
