Read about our Textile x Ocean Connector Sail last year.

Sustainable Textiles consultant, Krystle Moody Wood, and Ocean Conservation consultant, Carolynn Box, are bringing together our combined network of sustainability leaders to connect and solve for the most critical issues at the intersection of textiles and ocean.

Aboard the wooden tall ship brigantine Matthew Turner and the Schooner Seaward we have curated a program that fosters deep connections between attendees and helps answer hard questions about textile-derived ocean pollution (i.e. microfiber pollution), climate change, waste, green chemistry, ocean-thoughtful material alternatives, and more.

Activities include facilitated networking, expert presentations, demonstrations of marine research techniques, and more.

You will learn how microfiber pollution is measured, what we know about the potential sources and pathways for fiber pollution in our region, and key upcoming ways to get involved in furthering research and solutions.

Attendees

Target participants include a cross-sector group of textile industry experts, textile company representatives, scientists, policy makers, representatives from universities and environmental groups, and other interested stakeholders.

Specially curated experiential learning at sea

With 8 expert speakers, a beautiful tall ship, and a stellar crew, we promise you will have an exciting learning adventure and bring home key takeaways for your organization!

Outcomes from 2022

In 2022, we hosted our first Textile x Ocean Connector Sail. We have seen many great outcomes from our 2022 program that include, but are not limited to:

1) over 70 new connections forged cross sector

2) industry and academia working together to develop student internships and new research

3) increase of government connections with sustainable textile solutions from NGOs and industry (especially for followup to the upcoming congressional SOS 2.0 Report on Microfiber Pollution)

4) building the groundwork for a expedition and microfiber summit this September with 5 Gyres

5) inspiring a fashion student sail on April 14th, 2023 including short film (to be released later in 2023)

6) continuing to strengthen our partnership with Call of the Sea to build curriculum integrating fiber/textiles education into their youth programming

We anticipate bigger outcomes, actions, and impacts through the continuity of this project. Please contact us directly if you have an aligned outcome that you think our program can support!
