From 2022-2024, Krystle Moody Wood served as the Fiber Project Manager for Mango Materials. Mango Materials' technology uses waste biogas (methane) to produce poly-hydroxyalkanoate (PHA) powder, a valuable biopolymer that is converted into a variety of eco-friendly, plastic products such as cosmetic packaging and textiles.
Services performed include:
-Drove key development milestones for dynamic materials innovation startup while navigating complex hurdles and development targets.
-Led business development and engagement for all fiber-based relationships including brand partners, manufacturers, and fiber spinning laboratories to provide valuable insights for Mango Materials team to advance fiber development from emergent bio-based feedstocks.
-Spearheaded first textile prototypes in footwear and apparel applications using Mango Materials fiber by building tight downstream partnerships and ensuring fit-for-purpose design.
-Attended and provided technical textile expertise on multiple on-site fiber spinning trials at global lab partners.
-Facilitated integration of key learnings from fiber spinning trials with Mango Materials team to successfully improve performance properties of formulation trial over trial.
-Partnered with artist and educator Lynda Grose to develop range of knit prototypes using Mango Materials yarn and successfully enter into Craft Contemporary Museum’s “Material Acts: Experimentation in Architecture & Design” exhibit in October 2024. This also included the development of a custom knit garment worn by CEO Molly Morse at the 2024 New York Climate Week.
